Diving into Decals
Decals are visuals that are projected onto other objects. The great thing about them is they will alter themselves to fit whatever they are projected onto!
Decals are low performance cost compared to their visual fidelity, and can save resources while still giving off that extra bit of detail.
Decals can be created in Unity as well, provided you have a base and normal map!
On a final note, take care that the projection area of the decal is as close to the intended object as possible, otherwise the player (or other moving parts) may unintentionally block the projection, which would give the appearance of the decal missing (or going onto the players’ character).
