Objective: Identify post processing effects that will enhance the visual of our game.

For the example Space Shooter title, I want to bring out the light of the starry background as well as the engines and laser. Furthermore, I want to enhance the outer space element by making our game “colder”.

Let’s start with Bloom.

Bloom will help bring out the light colors in the scene. This will provide a good contrast to the primarily dark color scheme of black and grey.

Some Bloom edits.
Showing the difference by turning Bloom on and off.

Next, I am going to add some color tone in the Color Grading component to bring out the blues on the screen.

I achieve this using the Color Shift, Saturation, and Contrast tools inside the Color Grading.

Without Color Grading.
With Color Grading.

There is more you can do with just these two components, and there are a handful of other components to edit and peruse. Always spend some time trying things out if you do not know what you want to do. It will help you learn techniques to apply to your games.
