Previsualization in Unity (Game Dev Day 52)
Previs, as it is sometimes referred to, is the pre production part of making a cinematic. This process extends beyond video games and is common for filmography.
Good pre production is a paramount if you want a concise final product. The director has the vision, and making sure he provides clear instruction to the developer or producer ensures that his vision is met.
The following notes show what the director wants in the cutscene.
The director provided not only visual shots of the end goal, but also notes to ensure that the deliverable was easy to meet. The blue arrows refer to the panning of the cameras.
I created both shots using this director’s note, as seen below.
The entire scene is done together and plays an one animation over the course of both camera shots.
Without clear instruction from previsualization, this cutscene becomes much harder to recreate. Make sure you plan ahead!
